These women continually on a given day go to women groups on meeting days to campaign and sell the economic, health and environmental benefits of clean cookstoves using free campaign materials for the awareness campaigns.

Interested end users are then directed to the distributors who arranges for the delivery to be made where payment can be made outrightly, however, there is provision for payment by instalment as well where the end user belongs to a local women group or market association.

Environmental Impacts

Increased clean cookstove energy technology has contributed greatly to the alleviation of poverty, deforestation and reduction of greenhouse emissions that lead to climate change and increased higher fuel combustion efficiency.

Reduced household and indoor air pollution hazardous to health and the environment are major contributions to our clean cookstoves advocacy and empowerment initiative.

Our work in this manner opens the communities up to the immense hazards our collectives actions brings on the environment and places the responsibility of combating this challenge as well on the collective action and support from everyone within the community as well.

Sustainable Development Impacts

The project has Economic empowerment, environmental sustainability and health benefits. An average barracks constitute of between seven and eight thousand household, that gives us an average population of 42,000 people in one barracks multiplied by 4 barracks, that is 168,000 people. The final impact of the project will be an enlightened and aware population mostly of low-income women who are more affected by the scourge of death from cooking, but also a more economically empowered population. Reduced number of deaths from cooking, a greener environment as a result of less use of firewood for cooking which causes deforestation and a switch to a greener method of cooking, reduced number of health conditions associated with smoke emission from cooking and a more healthy population within this community. Also, it increases the amount of disposable income available to these families that can be put to more beneficial use for food, education and leisure.

Scalability

The project sustainability has been looked into from the angle that this project is a social enterprise. The women act both as ambassadors for clean cooking as well as distributors supplied the product that they will sell at a minimal profit margin to ensure they stay in business, having been trained on business management skills, effective bookkeeping and entrepreneurship and supported by mentors to ensure they are able to grow their business and remain in business.

With the growth of the business, this means they employ people others, which in turn reduce the unemployment rate in these communities. The model of clean cookstove is one easy to use and with the capacity for sustained production and supply.

This cycle is designed as a social enterprise that is will be running on its own but it will also be one that has the capacity to employ people and empower households to deliver on all intended targets.

Replicability

Some women are selected will be given clean cookstove products having received training and other support.
