Description

In 1998, the idea of farming was realized in the form of Sukrishi farms located at Nelamangala which is an hour’s drive from Bangalore. It was a mere barren land way back and now it is flourishing green farm of great biodiversity and a well-known organic farm. The Sukrishi farms are spread across 40 acres of lush green serene landscape. It is home to a variety of crops and trees and also birds and animals. Innovative practices are implemented here like the use of biogas and rainwater harvesting. The crops here are grown organically using harvested rainwater. It has three man-made lakes which serve for the rainwater harvesting. We follow the multi-crop system where a number of crops are grown and not just one. We also do not use any kind of pesticides or insecticides. We believe that nature has its own way of protecting its creations. We follow the smart system of planting crops. For example, we make use of sunlight to the maximum extent by planting cocoa under a coconut tree. Guests have visited this farm from all over the world and conducted various programs on organic and ecological workshops and social causes. Sukrishi farm is now being converted to a bio-ecological farm with a model for Food Forest.

Environmental Impacts

In the span of 1998-2017, we have converted a barren land into Food Forest.
We have used been conserving rain water and the farm is sustaining on the same. Hence, there is no dependency of an external water source. Since we believe in biodiversity farming, there is a huge array of species that exist in the farm, from a worm to migratory birds.
We influenced and brought awareness among the fellow farmers who have adopted a similar model which in turn has greater impact cumulative impact on the environment.

Sustainable Development Impacts

We have created models in form of organic state which consist of organic food restaurant, Detox Cafe, organic store and also urban farming. This helps as a value addition to the farm. We sell the products grown at our farm and also set up a marketplace for other organic manufacturers.
We are also promoting eco and responsible tourism in form of our eco-hotel and retreat. This is a model that sets an example for travelers and others in the industry of travel and tourism.

Scalability

This is the ultimate model that can resolve the issues of farming, water, and river, climate change that can change the environmental impacts that in return helps humans in sustainable and happy living. Nativity is very important, it's important to eat locally grown food than increasing the food mileage.
A country like India where most of the population is dependent on the agriculture as a livelihood, it's important we adopt healthy methods to support ourselves on the long run.
We owe the responsibility of preserving nature to our future generations too.
We have to look and adopt the traditional methods of farming and life, which are healthy and peaceful. This model not only helps the humans but also the biodiversity in nature, which is very important to retain the balance.
We think that organic is not just chemical-free; it's peace and love!

Replicability

We have to stop using chemicals in every way possible way! We owe the responsibility of creating a better place to live to our future generations:
1. Adopt Organic farming- Use natural fertilizers thereby reducing cost of cultivation
2. Cultivate sustainable living- Use renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy for production of electricity/power
3. Adopt Multi-crop system, where we grow multiple crops at the same time or on rotation on the same land. This helps in the enrichment of soil. The outcome is chemical free food.
4. Harvest Rainwater and utilize same for agriculture.
5. Celebrate life with nature!
