Synopsis: Rare Conservation has developed an innovative conservation strategy, the Pride Campaign, to foster community-based conservation through environmental education. The main objective is to inspire local people and to make them proud of their natural resources and surroundings; this, in turn, results in a dramatic increase in local participation to clean and protect their nature. For this campaign, familiar local wildlife such as a sea turtle or parrot are chosen as mascot to help raise awareness, and local people are trained to help motivate environmental pride within their communities. As a consequence, local communities lead conservation action and ensured that endangered species escape from extinction.
