The Equator Prize honors outstanding community projects that effectively reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

Equator Initiative’s biennial Equator Prize is awarded to recognize communities from developing countries in the tropical belt that demonstrate in practical terms successful simultaneous efforts to conserve biodiversity and reduce poverty.

The winners were announced in Malaysia at the Seventh Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
