A capacity-building workshop for the Equator Prize for Sustainable Land Management in Sub Saharan Africa winners was held at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies. This session laid the platform for engagement among the participants and introduced the work of the Equator Initiative.

UNCCD and Media

UNCCD CSO Liaison Officer spoke of the role of the UNCCD and its engagement with civil society and grassroots groups. This was followed by a session with journalists focused on best practices to engage with media and strategies for effective communication.

 Preparing a Community Statement

Participants learned how to create a community statement and worked together to come up with content for the community statement to be read during the Award Ceremony.

Prepping for the Equator Prize for SLM in SSA Award Ceremony

The participants were divided into groups by language and were assigned a segment of the community statement to revise. Discussions were undertaken about the meaning of the Award Ceremony and the role of Equator Prize winners moving forward.

Day Trip to Kikuyu
Escarpment Forest

Participants and journalists were taken to the Kikuyu Escarpment Forest in the Rift Valley for a day trip. David Kuria, founder member and coordinator of KENVO, facilitated this trip.
