Day 1 - Introducing the Equator Initiative Partnership

Day 1 Session 1

A capacity-building workshop for the Equator Prize for Sustainable Land Management in Sub Saharan Africa winners was held at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies. This session laid the platform for engagement among the participants and introduced the work of the Equator Initiative. Equator Prize for SLM in SSA winners were introduced to the “elevator pitch” concept to learn to summarize and effectively convey information about their project/initiative to potential donors and interested media.

Day 2 - Learning About the Drylands Development Center

14 JUNE 2014 UCDD- KENYA 068UNDP Drylands Development Center (DDC) Coordinator, Anne Juepner, spoke about the DDC's work in Africa and their engagement with multiple stakeholders in the sub-Saharan region.  Representatives of TerrAfrica for Anglophone and Fracophone Africa outlined TerrAfrica's Civil Society Coordination Mechanism prompting participants to join one of the two networks.

Day 3 - Preparing a Community Statement & Day Trip

drylands ecotourismParticipants learned how to create a community statement and worked together to come up with content for the community statement to be read during the Award Ceremony. The participants were divided into groups by language and were assigned a segment of the community statement to revise. Discussions were undertaken about the meaning of the Award Ceremony and the role of Equator Prize winners moving forward. Participants and journalists were taken to the Kikuyu Escarpment Forest in the Rift Valley for a day trip. David Kuria, founder member and coordinator of KENVO, facilitated this trip.
