Yayasan Mitra Tani Mandiri (Foundation for Partnership with Independent Farmers)
In collaboration with 40 villages in the northern-central district of Timor, Yayasan Mitra Tani Mandiri aims to develop sustainable agricultural systems to increase productivity and provide alternative sources of income, with the aim of helping communities develop economic independence.
A sustainable agriculture and fair marketing initiative provides a collective marketing option for local farmers. By selling local goods together rather than independently, this collective marketing method allow villages to increase their bargaining power and increase their revenues. Fruit and lumber trees have been planted to reestablish local biodiversity and offer an alternative to deforestation. Average household incomes have increased by over 30 per cent.
