Description
KAGE Ltd is a social enterprise, promoter of green economy in Burundi, by providing an innovative eco-friendly charcoal from organic household waste and agricultural residues, especially corncobs as the main raw material. The team works with other associations in charge of colleting household waste and rural farmers, especially maize culture farmer, in order to have access to raw materials, then they manufacture the eco-friendly charcoal and provide it in the community.
This initiative is very innovative as this project consists to use as raw material to produce eco-friendly cooking energy what was supposed to be thrown like households organic waste and agricultural remains especially corncobs. It is very innovative as it provides a new product obtained thanks to science and technology in the sector of energy without destroying the Environment. It is also an innovative way to achieve a sustainable waste management. It is also an innovative way to empower financially rural farmers of maize and to promote maize culture.

Environmental Impacts
The project of KAGE Ltd is contributing forest protection, forest biodiversity preservation and it’s providing a sustainable solution in waste management especially in recycling tons and tons of organic waste.
CLIMATE IMPACTS
The project contributes to climate action in fighting against deforestation related to wood charcoal production. It contributes also in providing a sustainable solution in biodegradable waste management. Both the two solutions contribute significantly in reducing GreenHouse Gases emission. Another advantage of this project is that we are creating jobs and when collecting these organic waste considered as raw materials we empower financially people who are committed to make that raw material more accessible and also we are planning how to empower financially and technically rural farmer, especially maize rural farmer in order to optimize the yieds and then succeed to have acces to sufficient agricultural residues but especially corncobs as we identify it as the potential raw material to produce our eco-friendly charcoal. All these advantages sustain the climate resilience.

RESILIENCE, ADAPTABILITY, AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY
Economically and socially, we are providing an innovative eco-friendly charcoal that transpires no smokes (that makes healthy especially for women and children who are exposed often to the cooking activity), very clean and long lasting, it is currently a preferable cooking energy by households and restaurants, cheap and affordable by all community members. When collecting the raw materials, we plan to empower financially and technically rural farmers especially maize culture farmers in order to maximize the yield of maize and then profit the corncobs. Indirectly we are promoting maize culture and that will contribute to fight against hunger and poverty. We are creating job opportunities.
Environmentally, we are fighting against deforestation; we are providing an innovative solution in waste management sector and both the two solution contribute in reducing greenhouse gases emissions. Importantly, the project contributes in climate resilience of the community.KAGE Ltd works with all the people without regarding society or familly level. Since we collect raw materials we are using women and young people.

GENDER EQUALITY
The target customers are households. The project contributes in health promotion of women and girls as they are who deal often with cooking; consequently they are always exposed to diseases related to smoke from firewood or wood charcoal. It will also promote education and gender equality for youth especially girls who are disturbed in their studies as they are often sent to search for firewood in the forests, without ignoring the dangers to which they are exposed, such as sexual harassment.
SOCIAL INCLUSION
When collecting raw material, KAGE LTD works with young people and women especially in collecting charcoal dust and corncobbs. This project empowers many people financially, especially these who are commited to work in promoting the projects.
Scalability
The initiative can be scaled up nationally because in almost urban area of our contry they use in majority and also produce organic waste. So the product is very necessary and wherever we can get raw materials.
Replicability
It is not yet replicated but in the plan there is that initiative to hire employees in order to replicate the initiative in all parts of our country. The one thing to do is the system of production which works in collaboration with maize farmers and other local associations that work in waste management.
