NFK is a basic entity of the “Rwanda Kolping Society (RKS)”, a national affiliation to the “International Kolping Society (IKS)”, a Non-Governmental Organization. Related trainings were organized and realized. The total cost of realization is US$29,580.

The regions neighboring Gishamvu (Nyumba) has few models of richness and zero model of industrialization able to influence the general will of the population to get out from hunger and poverty. NKF is one of working organizations in the region. It is running with little means.

The staff of Rwanda Kolping, mainly the Coordinator and the Agronomist, have been the most provider and supervisor of NKF programs in harmony with MINAGRI and RAB farming seasons and in the orientation of the Rwanda Vision in general. Actually, NKF needs to be more open to the funding world, and to promote its members and the neighbors, under the supervision of Rwanda Kolping Society, NGO working in Rwanda and worldwide for a sustainable people’s future without hunger and poverty, with high education and smart and hygienic housing.

Environmental Impacts

In the rural area, since 2006, the members of the organization struggle for life, with a little land, a little knowledge, little information. Today, with technology help we are invited to participate in a global challenges solving, by adopting appropriate ideas, new mindset, new business, new project.

The present project would concern the ecosystem protection, restoration and sustainable management, where we intend to develop the fruits farming, especially avocados for their health and economic importance.

We are going to start with a farm of 3 hectares, with 450 avocados seeds. In order to ensure the greenfield, we must provide water for watering and/or irrigation. We will use natural and enough manure for ecosystem restoration and for healthier products. After four year of the project, we expect to own 10 hectares with 1,500 trees. We intend to replicate the project countrywide among the similar 96 groups of the Kolping Organization. Within 4 years of the project, we shall cover and restore more that 960 hectares. If successful, we are planning to do so for various fruits such as , lemon, orange, mandarin in order to create a variety of production, restore more land surface abused over centuries by overexploitation of arable land by uninstructed people. Not only the project of fruits extended farming will restore the arable land for the lasting misuse, but also it will restore the quality of life in nutrients and in cash. All living human needs food every day in quality and in quantity. Overpopulation has reduced the arable land and the feeding quality at the same time by using many chemicals in production. Our project, and our organization, for ecosystem protection and restoration is recommended to use exclusively the natural manure to save both the nature and the human.

Sustainable Development Impacts

For chosen sustainable development impacts:
SDG 1: Jobs & Livelihoods: No poverty is the right of every human king. He need a decent job able to provide a right salary. A right salary will help to get sufficient living equipment and quality of food.
SDG 5: Gender Equality: All gender are welcomed, with a particular attention to the female. To ensure the equality and women' and girls' empowerment, 50% of the committee must be female.
SDG 13: Climate Action: Planting any king of tree contribute to the climate positive change. This project prefers to use natural manure for nature restoration and for healthier products.
SDG 16 : Peace & Security: One beneficiaries will be able to increase the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and rising from the lower to the upper social-economic class, Peace and security will increase at the same level. A hungry and a poor people is not peaceful neither secured in the society.

RESILIENCE, ADAPTABILITY, AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Resilience and adaptability. The initiative responds and adapts to the environment, social and economic challenges. Avocado is available countrywide, it can grow in any soil in Rwanda, it requires a low investment cost of US$10,000. And it is easy to maintain.
We are planning to run it, because we have information that an international market is offering interesting cash, in short term period: US$30,000 cash for 100 trees and for 10 years. Considerable sum for a family in a rural area.

Any person can plant it and it is a source of money hence it is consumed everyday by almost families. Even if the external business fails to consume the production, the local market is sufficient to consume the product. Hostels, Restaurants and Shops are always selling the products. The local, regional and international markets of avocados are able to boost the family and the country economy and make important change in the society.

REDUCED INEQUALITIES

The project will address the reduction of inequalities and the social inclusion management.
As said above, the project investment and the maintenance are the easiest ones that we should implement in the rural area. The rural vulnerable population will be easily involved in the project namely young people, elders, indigenous, girls, women and people with disabilities. We know that those groups mentioned above, socially and economically are the most marginalized by the existing economy systems. Around our organization, there are many cases of miserable conditions.
While choosing the avocados project, we thought about all of them, convinced that they will benefit highly from such simple but economic project. Other projects should be difficult for them. The mentioned group count those persons who has been and still be living with less than US$1.9 per day. Reviewing the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, especially 1 SDG No Poverty and 2 SDG Zero hunger, the avocados project will help to achieve both goals, so reducing inequality and allowing easy social inclusion.
Since 16 years ago, we tried but we failed to run a strong project to fight against inequality and to promote the social inclusion. The current opportunity is expected to provide the important key to the socio-economic growth for the direct beneficiaries, the neighbors and the national organization level.

GENDER EQUALITY

The family accepts members from of gender categories. The existing projects has to empower women, girls, youth, old people against poverty and hunger. The current project intends to exploit the opportunity by generating high and quick incomes that will support financially the members, starting by those who show the deep existential needs.
The organization membership is above 50% of women and the committee also is composed by above 50% of women. All decisions are made equally.
The previous initiatives were focused on agriculture (maracuja, maize, potatoes, soja) and livestock (cow, goat, rabbit). They encouraged the women to be the source of development for their respective families, the organization and the society. Recently, they benefited from the water tanks retention project, because women are the most concerned by water provision in family. The project intended to alleviate they task that require daily their physical effort.
Women and girls existence has a unique importance to ensure life continuation on earth: they give births and they maintain lives by feeding techniques. The organization considers first the women and girls conditions before planning for any project, with a full consciousness of the central importance of them within the community.

Scalability

The project of avocados farming for business, for cash, at local level, will start exploring 3 hectares, with 450 trees, with US$10,000 of investment cost. After two years, we expect to gain in cash US$90,000. This incomes will help to own additional land of 20 hectares and the business, after 4 years will generate US$ 100,000 annually. This project is very will be shared with 96 Kolping Families in Rwanda, with almost 4,777 members and to anyone who can own. Avocados business requires a moderate maintenance, applicable by every one, who own a large land, profitable over 20 years.

Replicability

Avocado project is expected to replicate locally and countrywide. In many parts of the country and beyond, We will share the project feasibility to the similar groups. Owning a new hectare of land means a new area of replication.
The project is very simple to maintain, as the owner will earn cash, rural population are recommended to implement it and to earn money from avocados industries that are so many nowadays and are encourage farmers to produce more avocados. Rural population will be happy to copy the project as long as it will prove the potential rapid potential growth of the GDP.
