Description

Majik Water provides a solution for the water crisis in Kenya by commissioning a device that can harvest drinking water from the air. Majik Water addresses inadequate access to water in the kenyan market using an innovative approach. Majik Water (MW) has established a B2B marketing system to access clients in arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL), and creating opportunities for collaboration on water conservation measures.

Environmental Impacts

Majik Water's Pay-Per-Litre device can be powered by solar energy and its 1000L per day system reduces 2290kg of CO2e per day, and 835,850kg of CO2e per year, assuming operation happens on a daily basis. In addition GHG reductions come from the reduction in transport emissions from trucking water, and electricity needed in water bottling operations for borehole water. Organizations that utilize water for their daily use in office set-ups and residential houses where different employees and other professionals reside have not developed efficient methods of water harvesting and utilization leading to exploitation of expensive sources of non-renewable water sources, further inflating the cost of their development work and health needs.

Sustainable Development Impacts

1. No Poverty: Access to sanitation through water 2. Zero Hunger: Majik water has been used to build food systems 3. Good Health: access to clean water rids disease 5. Gender Equality: The organization Is a fair employer and is run by women. Majik water also promotes women in STEM by is community service activities through its female engineers 6. Clean Water: provide access to clean water 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth: Creating jobs for people in commissioning sites and through the paygo water stations 9. Industry, Innovation: Generating employment and income through innovative water solutions 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities: Making communities more sustainable and depending less on imported water sources 12. Responsible Consumption and Production: Reversing current consumption trends and promoting a more sustainable future through hydroponics and atmospheric water production 13. Climate Action: Regulating and reducing carbon emissions through using renewable energy

RESILIENCE, ADAPTABILITY, AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Majik water had developed a modular solution. These water devices can be expanded or made smaller based on budgets as well as community needs. If a small school needs only a small device for class rooms Majik water has a solution for that. If a hospital needs a large device to provide water for patients this can be adjusted. If the hospital now needs to start growing vegetables to provide food for the patients the water can be used for this.

REDUCED INEQUALITIES

Majik Water provides indigenous groups with an integral resource that is quickly being depleted. This resource will afford them the quality of life they need to thrive in their communities. Two main commissionings Majik Water has completed are in northern Kenya within the Turkana Peoples community. The communities would have to import food and water from over 400kms away, this initiative is now providing them with a one of a kind solution and educational system on how to grow and harvest water. In addition to becoming entrepreneurs within their own communities.

GENDER EQUALITY

Majik water is lead by 3 female partners and a female engineer leads the commissioning projects. The organization also promotes sustainable water sourcing because when there is water scarcity, family members, mostly women, are forced to go looking for water up to 4 hours away including many girls who miss school to look for water. The water they find is usually highly contaminated which leads to increased water borne diseases, and often death. Furthermore, frequent drought is leading to increased migration and clashes over land.

Scalability

Majik water is producing 5,000L/day throughout kenya through its network of commissioned devices.

Replicability

The devices can be deployed anywhere with 30% humidity or higher and the water can be used for agricultural settings. The devices have been commissioned in a food system that produces 2T of water annually.
